Rachel Wheeler has received an Associates of Science degree from Ricks College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from USU, and a Masters of Music Education degree from BYU.
Rachel directed a full time orchestra program in the sixth through eighth grades at Roosevelt Junior High for 16 years with 170+ students enrolled. Wheeler’s school orchestras have performed in California at music festivals, in St. George at the Utah Educators Conference, in Abravanel Hall at the National ASTA festival, and on temple square. For the last eleven years, Wheeler has organized and directed a summer orchestra for High school and Junior high school students in the Uintah Basin. She has maintained a private teaching studio for the last twenty five years.
In 2008, the American String Teachers Association named Rachel the Secondary String Teacher of the year, and in 2009 she was awarded “Superior Accomplishment” from the Utah Music Educators Association. In May of 2009 she was given the Governors award for “Leadership in the Arts” for the State of Utah. Wheeler was awarded the “Sorensen Legacy Award for Excellence in Arts Education” in May 2015. Rachel has served as the secretary for the Utah state ASTA chapter for the last seven years.
Rachel is married to Dr. Greg Wheeler and they have four children.
