Josh Skinner is a bassist who maintains an active career as a performer and educator.
Fluent in both jazz and classical idioms, Skinner frequently performs with the Kate
Skinner Trio, Greeley Philharmonic, Fort Collins Symphony, Idaho Falls Symphony and
many other regional jazz and classical ensembles. Josh has performed with numerous
orchestras and chamber ensembles in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona,
and Colorado, including the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Company. He currently
co-leads a funk-pop fusion group “Promotional Code” who recently released their debut
album on the Dazzle Records label. He has traveled throughout the United States as
a performer, clinician and adjudicator working with both classical and jazz soloists
Skinner is currently music faculty at Utah State University, teaching the bass studio and courses in jazz studies and music theory. Skinner holds a BM degree in music education from Utah State University, MM degrees in music education and performance from the University of Idaho, and is currently a doctoral candidate in bass performance from University of Northern Colorado. While at UNCO he was a graduate assistant for the double bass studio and jazz studies area. Prior to his graduate studies he worked as an educator in public schools teaching band, orchestra, mariachi, world music, and general music. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, The International Society of Bassists, Jazz Education Network, NAfME, and ASTA.
