Voice

The voice performance degree at Utah State University offers individual instruction with a faculty of experienced voice professionals. Emphasis is placed on sound vocal techniques, which will allow the student to succeed in a variety of fields of music. By graduation, students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in German, French, Italian and English Art Song, as well as Operatic and Oratorio Arias. Performance majors present two solo recitals, participate in an fully-staged opera every semester and have abundant opportunities for solo performances.

Courses specific to this major include:

  • Vocal Pedagogy: study of anatomy and physiology of singing and study of techniques for studio teaching.
  • Vocal Repertory: study of classical music written for the solo voice.
  • Diction-study of pronunciation and translation skills necessary for singing in German, French, and Italian.
  • Intro to Opera: a survey course of opera and operetta of the standard repertoire, and then some.
  • Intro to Musical Theater: a survey course of nearly every musical theater piece known to man.
