Orchestra Education students enjoy a program like no other. There is an emphasis on developing artistry with one's instrument alongside the Performance Majors, in addition to a rigorous Music Education curriculum. To be a Music Education Major in the string program, one auditions to gain acceptance into one of the studios of the members of the Fry Street Quartet, and in doing so joins a highly motivated, tightly-knit group of students who receive an extraordinary amount of attention and care from their mentors. Lessons, orchestra, and chamber music are intensive and involve interaction with the entire string faculty. Further supplementing their artistic education, there are a rich array of additional events such as master classes, pedagogy seminars, and concerts to both perform in and attend. In the past several years, guest artists have included violinist Andres Cardenes, members of the Emerson String Quartet, violinist and pedagogue Brian Finlayson, cellist Paul Katz, and violinist/conductor Pinchas Zukerman, to name just a few. Each year, internationally renowned artists who perform on the prestigious Chamber Music Society of Logan Series graciously give master classes to USU string students.
We invite all prospective students to explore our program. Please feel free to contact us, and attend some of the exciting events that are nearly constant throughout the academic year.
